The prevailing circumstances do not provide the optimal backdrop for our nation to legalize same-sex marriages, considering the social, legal and cultural landscape.
It is time that India accepts that its sexual and gender minorities are not just numbers that need to be documented but humans that need to be celebrated, and fought for.
For marriage equality to truly be passed, we need an overhaul of attitudes and ideas, supported by enough legislative and policy procedures which empower queer Indians to a safe, secure, and free life.
