United Nations is releasing its first Bollywood-style music video to raise awareness about gay rights in India. The video features a single, her debut, by Celina Jaitly who has sung the legendary track “Uthey sab ke kadam”, remixed by Neeraj Shridhar of Bombay Vikings.
The program, scheduled for 30thApril in Mumbai also marks the launch of the UN public education campaign for LGBT equality called Free & Equal and is supported by Sa Re Ga Ma Ltd, one of India’s leading music and entertainment company..
“The best way to reach people across borders and language & cultural barriers is through music and I am most blessed to be able to contribute my musical debut to such a good cause,” Celina said. The press conference to announce the launch will also include actor Imran Khan, human rights activists Ashok Row Kavi and Laxmi Tripathi, and UN representatives.
