The blockbuster fight in Varanasi just got queer on Monday with trans-person Kamla filing her nomination to fight from the constituency that is seeing a pitched battle between Narendra Modi, Arvind Kejriwal and Mukhtar Ansari.

Transgenders from UP, Jharkhand, Bihar, Delhi, Odisha have been asked to travel to Varanasi for door-to-door campaigning for Kamla, who is being fielded as an independent by an organization for transgenders that supports Mulayam Singh Yadav as PM.

Denying that the candidature was mere gimmick, Kamla said her main aim was to stop Modi from winning in Varanasi. Modi was an outsider who wouldn’t help in the development of Varanasi, she said.

Kamla has contested the assembly polls twice previously and had garnered 20,000 votes. BJP is already trying to cajole Kamla not to contest the elections with Gorakhpur mayor Satya Pandey already paying them a visit to convince them to withdraw.
