Chennai: In a trendsetter for the marginalized transgender community, Sahodari Foundation and One Indian Road Safety Organization(OIRSO) came together to offer training and job placement for transgenders as Traffic Safety Assistants. The training programme was held on the 30thof May in Chennai.
Sahodari Foundation is a transgender advocacy group in Tamil Nadu run by the successful transwoman, Kalki Subramaniam
Transgenders, often derided for their work and profession, were given an opportunity to escape from the vicious circle and enroll in a job that is both respectable and highly responsible. After an intensive one week training involving ethics, attitude and behaviour, the placement will be done within a week at Chennai’s busiest traffic signals. The TSAs will work in uniforms designed similar to police officers.
Working hours would be two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening and will run six days a week. The salary offered will be Rs. 6000
