MIST, an LGBT collective based in Bangalore, is organizing an awareness campaign along the Metro line in the city. The event, which the organizers explicitly mention as being merely an awareness campaign, and not a protest, will be held from 5 PM on January 26, incidentally also the Republic Day.
The organizers have asked participants to join them for a metro ride from MG Road to Byappanahalli wearing T-shirts with slogans printed on them, or with posters/slogans pinned to them. Mayank Gupta, one of the organizers, said, “The event is being held to sensitize the general public on Section 377 of the IPC, and about the general state of life for members of the LGBT community.”
MIST was started by Dolly, Shyam Konnur and Mayank Gupta, and has previously organised two freeze mobs and a mini walk in Bangalore to raise awareness among people on LGBT issues. “We hope that the event would be a success this time, greater than our previous events, and no one mistakes it for a protest,” said Mayank.
