After successfully holding a queer pride, the Awadh Queer Pride Committee organised a flash mob, the first queer flash mob of the city, on May 20th to celebrate International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). People present at Gomati River front were pleasantly surprised when a bunch of people suddenly started dancing to a medley of English and Hindi songs. A huge crowd soon gathered around the dancers, who used the opportunity to further raise awareness about LGBTQ issues.
Preparation for the flash mob began soon after the pride march in Lucknow in April, and a group of 20 people practiced for more than two weeks for the flash mob. Priyansh Tripathi, who witnessed the flash mob and captured it in his camera said, “It was an awesome experience to be part of something this good. I feel honoured, and it was indeed a historical day in Lucknow’s history. Section 377 must go, we are now living in freaking 21st century.”
