A member of the Madhya Pradesh Congress has sent a legal notice of defamation to Baba Ramdev for his controversial statements regarding Congress leaders and homosexuality.
The yoga guru had on Wednesday reportedly said, “It appears that many Congress activists were supporting gay sex as they are homosexuals”.
The defamation notice wants Ramdev to withdraw the statement and express regret on national television, besides issuing a written apology to Congress president Sonia Gandhi. The Congress member also said that the social reputations of many Congress members were damaged by the accusation and they had to face humiliating situations in many parts of the country.
Activist Harish Iyer wondered how being labeled ‘homosexual’ damaged someone’s reputation or was an ‘insult’, especially for the party whose senior leaders, including Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, have come out in favour of a Delhi High Court verdict decriminalizing homosexuality. “What is so offensive about being called gay? So much for equal rights!” he said.
