After banning the use of Bombay in a video song, and then issuing a list of words which cannot be used in movies, the Indian Censor board has taken objection to the word ‘lesbian’ and had it muted in the movie Dum Laga Ke Haisha.
The Ayushmann Khurranna starrer movie has been receiving good reviews from the critics as well as viewers. The movie is about a man, who is forced to marry an over-weight woman according to his family’s wishes, and how they slowly find love in each other’s company.
In one of the scenes film’s lead actress Bhumi Pednekar’s character Sandhya is consoled by a lawyer at court when the word ‘lesbian’ was used. The censor board replaced four other words as well.
But Censor Board member and film director Ashoke Pandit expressed his dipleasure over twitter. “Came to know through news papers & If it’s true then muting”Lesbian”in a film is shameful.I condemn it.#freedomofexpression,” he tweeted.
