Transgender people in Odisha will be included in the BPL (Below Poverty Level) list and will also be covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), according to a PTI report.
“The state government has decided to accord BPL status to the transgender persons and they will get all benefits availed by the poor,” Women and Child Development Minister Usha Devi said.
Under the NFSA, transgender members will be entitled to receive five kilos of food grains per month under the targeted PDS system. Some 22,000 members are expected to benefit from the government decision.
