The brigadier of an army unit posted along the Line of Control in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir may be sacked following complaints that he sexually abused his sahayak (assistant). The brigadier has been attached to the infantry division for a court of inquiry and forced to go on leave, PTI reported.
Sahayak’s are regular soldiers assigned to officers to help them in official tasks and were earlier called batman. There have been demands to scrap the system though.
Army officials said that men found guilty in similar cases previously had been sacked as such conduct is unacceptable in the armed forces.
