The anthology Rituparno Ghosh: Cinema Gender Art edited by Sangeeta Datta, Kaustav Bakshi and Rohit Dasgupta, to be published by Routledge (South Asian History and Culture Series) is slated for release on 7th December this year.
A much-awaited book, the news has created much flutter in the academic sphere. Mr. Bakshi, assistant Professor at Sanskrit College, Kolkata, says, “Rituparno Ghosh’s life and cinema have influenced queer people across the globe, and especially in Kolkata, his iconic status as a cultural and queer icon is still unchallenged. This book is a detailed critical investigation into his cinema, his stardom, his take on sexual identity politics, and his contribution to the cultural sphere in general.”
Gaylaxy hopes that the book gets the recognition it deserves. Watch out this space for more information about the book, its making, and of course about Rituparno, without whom any discussion on gender, sexuality, films, and a lot of other spheres is never complete.
