Sani Dayal, a 25 year old blind gay man, was found murdered on 5th September in the deserted forest area of Aali Vihar in Sarita Vihar. The body of Sani was discovered by Delhi police and had multiple stab wounds. Delhi Police claim to have solved the case within 10 hours with the arrest of Sumit Dabba (20) and Kartik (24).
Sani had got to know Sumit through dating app Blued and the two had decided to meet. Sumit, along with his accomplice Kartik, took Sani to a secluded area and tried to rob him of his mobile phone. When Sani resisted, they stabbed him and dumped his body in the forest area.
Police discovered that Sani’s phone was missing, and traced its last location to Gautampuri area near Badarpur. They also found that Sani had been in touch with a number, which was registered in the name of Pankaj, a resident of Gautampuri. However, the number was being used by another man named Arjun, who told the cops that the number was being used by Sumit on 5th September, the night of the murder.
Upon interrogation, Sumit confessed to the murder and revealed that he had met the deceased through gay dating app Blued. He also named Kartik as his accomplice. Police arrested the duo soon after and a case under Section 302/34 of the IPC has been registered.
“The accused persons asked deceased Sani Dayal to hand over his mobile. On refusal, the accused persons robbed him on knifepoint and stabbed him. The victim succumbed to his injury in the hospital,” said DCP South East RP Meena.
Police have recovered Sani’s mobile from the accused. Karthik is involved in four other cases of assault, attempted murder and other offenses.
