Chhattisgarh police have recruited 13 people of the Transgender community into its ranks, a first for the state. The candidates were selected on merit, based on examinations that were held in 2017-18, and whose results were declared on March 1st, 2021.
“Thirteen candidates from the transgender community have been recruited as constables on the basis of merit. Two others are in the waiting list,” Chhattisgarh’s Director General of Police D M Awasthi told PTI.
“We welcome them and believe many others from the community would join the police force in future,” he said.
Recenty, Bihar government too filed an affidavit before the Patna High Court and has said that it will recruit transgender persons into the police force.
