Chitra Palekar is a well known theater actor. She is also a mother, whose daughter came out to her as a lesbian. Since then, she has been a strong advocate of LGBT issues and was also a petitioner in the 377 case (along with other parents), asking the Supreme Court to repeal Section 377.
In a Times of India report, she talks about the time when her daughter came out, “She told me: ‘Amma, I’m a lesbian’. I wasn’t shocked. I was just surprised, taken aback.”
In this video from 2012, she talks about how she accepted her daughter when she came out, and her realization that she was ignorant about LGBT issues.
