Queer Your Year with the Queer Planner 2018!

In a democratic society, freedom of expression must be utilized to create knowledge and resources that can be accessed by different and wide audiences. Social movements in particular need to produce material that documents the events that take place over the course of the struggle. By documenting dissenting voices, citizens who are a part of movements are given a voice and platform that they might not otherwise have. This is especially important for those causes that are focused on specific political or social issues such as labour rights, agrarian issues, or gender rights, because such movements are rarely included in mainstream societal narratives. Creating, organizing, collating, and disseminating assertions of dissent — in the form of literature, art, and events — is an important way for movements to mark their moments in history and preserve them for the future as well as propagate a wider outreach of the core ideas of the movement

The history of the queer movement in India is vastly underrepresented and unrecorded, especially to individuals newly joining it. As part ofOur Lives, Our Tales, our ongoing archival project to document queer history and queer lived realities, we are very pleased to announce the launch of ourQueer Planner 2018. This not-for-profit project is a collaboration between Nazariya: A Queer Feminist Resource Group and Intercultural Resources. It contains in-depth information as it traces the history and chronology of the queer movement in India. All illustrations are the original works of lesbian/bisexual/queer/trans* artists assigned female at birth, further highlighting and validating their lived experiences and contributions to the queer community and movement. Formed in October 2014 by a group of queer feminist activists, Nazariya: QFRG works on issues of gender based violence, livelihoods, education, and health from a Lesbian/Bisexual/Queer/Trans* Assigned Female at Birth perspective through research and evaluations, capacity building, and advocacy.
