Y Films, the youth wing of Yash Raj Films, has launched India’s first transgender music band. The band, named 6 Pack Band, comprises six transgender singers hailing from India’s ‘Hijra’ community. Their debut song was posted on YouTube today and is titled “Hum Hai Happy”, a hindi-remix version of Pharrell Williams’ Happy song. Sponsored by Brooke Bond Label, the “band celebrates togetherness by depicting a more welcoming world”. On YouTube, Y Films wrote, “It’s an initiative created and driven by Y-Films, the youth wing of Yash Raj Films, to help further the cause of gender equality in India.”
The band is going to release another song with singer Sonu Nigam. The brand new single ‘Rab de Bande’ will be released on 26th January.
