JNU is going through tough times. The University students are being accused of harboring anti-nationals and even being linked to terrorists based on the basis of fake twitter accounts by none less than the Home Minister of country. All this for giving space to alternate voices and struggles, however unpopular they might be. The JNUSU President Kanhaiya has been charged with sedition. Yet, under such distressful times, a video has surfaced of the JNUSU Vice President Shehla Rashid addressing students and explaining the azaadi (freedom) that they dream of – azaadi from casteism, gender discriminatory laws, oppression, Section 377 and other colonial legacies. The video is 14 minutes long and you can hear her express the support for removal of Section 377 at 5:15 and 10:02 min. Watch the complete video below:
Note: Gaylaxy, in partnership with Dhanak-a queer group of JNU- was to hold an event “Voices from the Margins” on 14th Feb in the campus. The event was postponed a day before because of the developments in JNU. You can read the complete statement that we released here.
