Not many people come out of the closet in India. But those who do, often have to face some really stupid questions from “supportive” friends. Also, some of these well-meaning friends can be very homophobic without realising cracking “harmless” homophobic jokes isn’t really funny. Others try to convince you how you “cannot” be gay, or how homosexuality is wrong because a “plug fits into a socket”. A few others try to show you “hot babes”, “naked girls” to wake the sleeping straight man within you. Lesbians on the other hand become an object of fantasy for the same straight men. As a gay man who came out in college, I have heard all of the things that the latest Being Indian video shows. How many of these have you heard? And what all did they fail to capture?
