Pune will host its 5th LGBT Pride March on Sunday 23rd August. Being organized by the Samapathik Trust, the march will start at 11 am at Sambhaji Park on JM Road, move on to FC Road and end at Sambhaji Park around 12 noon.
Around 250 people are expected to participate in the event. Arrangements have been made for the travel of people from Mumbai who wish to attend the march. Police permission has been received for the march. The theme of the walk this year would be the need to address the problems of transgenders. Bindumadhav Khire, founder of the Samapathik Trust says that the transgender community is still unable to express itself sexually due to Section 377.
Transgenders also face harassment and discrimination routinely, and one of the aims of the march is to focus on these issues. Participants of the march would also be highlighting the problems faced by the LGBT community due to Section 377 through placards and posters.
