The 5th Awadh Queer Pride March was held in Lucknow on 28th February, 2020. Due to widespread outbreak of the pandemic, this year’s pride was a bit different from the previous four editions as there was no march this year. Instead, the pride took place at the amphitheatre of Lohia Park.
As LGBTQ people from the city and outside converged to celebrate pride, the park became an ocean of diverse colours and people. Notable was the participation by the trans and asexual communities this year. Many families along with their children too joined the Pride to show their support.
A free HIV testing camp was organized, along with a Photo exhibition and Zoom session with the lead cast of “A Married Woman” – a new webseries of Alt Balaji based on lesbian relationship. Many performances were held as well as part of the celebration this year. However, one performance that stood out was by Prateek Vats who recited a poem for his boyfriend and proposed to him on stage, as a huge crowd cheered and supported him.
Overall, despite the pandemic restrictions, it was a great event with vibrant performances and colorful dresses.
