Delhi Govt has launched a training curriculum to sensitise future teachers on trans issues through its nine District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) centres. The DIETs offer programmes for elementary teacher education and many of these students find employment as primary school teachers at Delhi government schools.
As part of the curriculum, the teachers will interact with transgender community members to understand the barriers between their access to education and health-care services. There will also be monthly workshops and lectures by experts from different universities and NGOs in which people from transgender community will come and speak about their experiences.
The initiative was launched at the DIET centre in Keshav Puram that covers the north Delhi district.
